Review: Nature of the Crime

“Nature of the Crime” is the 6th installment in Cara Devlin’s Bow Street Duchess series. This time Audrey is accused of murder on her way home from an extended stay on the Continent. She manages to get a missive off to her brother-in-law Michael, before being hustled off, under guard, to a local inn. The local magistrate seems to be unfairly targeting Audrey, but she has never met him before. Reinforcements, including Hugh Marsden, arrive to extricate Audrey from her predicament, but the case just gets more and more complicated as clues are uncovered. Enemies abound as Audrey and Hugh race to uncover the truth before it’s too late.

I love this series. There is action, adventure, and a slow-burn romance. The supporting cast of characters are as delightful as Audrey and Hugh (I’m hoping for some spin-offs). “Nature of the Crime” is a quick and satisfying read that will leave you wanting more.

This book is great for readers who like historical mysteries and slow-burn romances.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. "Nature of the Crime" comes out January 20, 2024.
